The
Yadgir district police have suspended two of its assistant sub-inspectors
(ASIs) and two police constables for failing to curb ongoing illegal operations
in various parts of Surpur city.
The suspended personnel have been identified as ASIs Ningappa and Balaram and
police constables Tayanna and Lakshman in Yadgir. They will remain under
suspension until the completion of the departmental inquiry.
The
action was taken following complaints by the public, elected representatives,
and various organisations regarding the increasing activities of illegal mining
and transportation of sand along riverbanks in the city and the subsequent loss
of government revenue and severe environmental damage.
Superintendent
of Police Prithvik Shankar had issued strict instructions to curb such illegal activities, including gambling and other unlawful activities.
However,
since a few police personnel failed to take action and arrest the guilty, the
Police Department initiated disciplinary proceedings against them.
“Illegal activities will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Protecting public trust is a primary responsibility of the Police Department. Anyone who fails to follow instructions, irrespective of their position, will have to face strict action,” Shankar warned.
